The Funeral Directors Convention and Expo, hosted annually by the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association took place from September 16 to September 18 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City. The Convention provided ample opportunities to learn, socialize and network. New and innovative products and procedures were on display at the Exhibit Hall, and attendees had a great chance to improve their businesses throughout the event.

Day 1 of the Convention, Tuesday, September 16, featured General Session, the annual business meeting of the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association where attendees witnessed the ceremonial installation of new board members. Later, at the Exhibit Hall Opening Reception, attendees joined their colleagues for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and walked the floor and saw what is trending in the industry while enjoying complimentary open bar, passed appetizers and food stations. Finally, attendees wound down after a busy first day at the Funeral Directors Round-Up, where they enjoyed cocktails and caught up with other attendees at a new location, The Center Bar.

Day 2 of the Convention, Wednesday, September 17, was packed with a mix of attendee favorites and exciting new featured events.

The annual Service of Remembrance memorialized eight association members and colleagues who died within the past year, honoring them in a solemn ceremony, officiated by Sharon Zalewski.

Students and interns were also able to take advantage of Network Bridge, where established funeral directors and those looking to get into the business were able to meet and greet.

Later, Convention featured a brand-new event: New Jersey Mortuary School Olympics.

Nine mortuary students from American Academy McAllister Institute, Eastwick College and Mercer County Community College competed in funeral assignments and games to see who will take home the Mortuary School trophy. This year’s champion was Eastwick. Finally, Wednesday ended on a high note with the late-night Convention Party, The Boardwalk Bayou. The party blended live jazz music and NOLA-inspired cocktails at The Balcony at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.

Day 3, Thursday, September 18 featured complimentary breakfast for all attendees, where we said goodbye until next year. NJSFDA Past Presidents and Executive Board members gathered at the Past Presidents Brunch where they joined their fellow leaders for mimosas, brunch and conversation.
