Although not a form of disposition, embalming, the process used to temporarily preserve the body and delay the natural process of decay, may allow you to plan funeral services in which the burial or cremation will occur in the days following a death.

Some families opt to hold the funeral and burial or cremation as soon as possible after the death has occurred. For others, the time between death and the funeral service could be days or weeks.

New Jersey’s health laws require that bodies be buried, cremated, embalmed or refrigerated within 48 hours after death.
