When considering a cemetery, be sure to consult with your funeral director on what is available to you. Much like planning your funeral, deciding on a cemetery has many options to choose from.
For example, the state has many cemeteries of certain religious affiliations. Some are historic. There is also a cemetery for veterans and their families. There are even natural cemeteries for the environmentally conscious.
When consulting with the funeral director on your cemetery choice, he or she can give general information as it pertains to your funeral planning. New Jersey state law (N.J.S.A. 45:27-16(c) to be specific) prohibits cemeteries from engaging in funeral service-specific activities. That means a cemetery employee cannot make prearrangements or help you plan a funeral. On the other side, the same law also prohibits funeral directors from engaging in activities specific to cemeteries.
