Certified Copies

Fees for certified copies of death certificates are set by the municipality issuing the copy along with a $5 burial or cremation permit.

Death certificates can be obtained through your funeral director when making your arrangements. The funeral home will charge what for these fees under "Cash Disbursements." Funeral directors make no profit on these charges.

Families can also request certified copies from the State Registrar's Office. The cost is $25 for the first copy and $2 for each additional copy.

Obtaining Certified Copies  

The funeral director can obtain certified copies of the death certificate for you. Certified copies are printed on special paper to prevent forgery. They can be printed with or without the cause of death included.

If you want the cause of death on your death certificate copies, you will need to sign a form authorizing this. If you need more copies in the future, the funeral home can order them for you.
